“It’s my hobby. It’s my life.” Simon Ghanimian, (better known to his adoring public as “Simon G”), says designing jewelry is his “all consuming” passion. From his design studios in Los Angeles, the Armenian-born sensation creates the trendsetting bridal and fashion jewelry that’s famous for his unique combinations of white, yellow and rose gold with brilliant white diamonds and colored stones in wonderfully ornate settings.
The renowned jewelry designer will be in central Pennsylvania October 18, 19 and 20 for personal appearances at three Kranich’s Jewelers locations. Charles Kranich says this is the third year the jewelry store has had special showings of Simon G collections, but that this is the first time the designer himself will attend the shows. “We are tremendously pleased that he is coming to our stores”, Kranich says. “Even though he is wildly successful and well-known, Simon G still loves meeting his customers directly. He says dealing with the public gives him the opportunity to ask questions that help him in his design ideas for ‘everyday jewelry’”. Kranich adds, “Meeting Simon G in person will be an amazing opportunity for his fans or for anyone even remotely familiar with his unique creations.”
Ghanimian’s designs combine a kind of old world intricacy with dazzling unexpected contemporary sensibility. A definite west coast cachet is reflected in the names he chooses for his various collections, such as “California Dreaming”, “Oscar Night”, and “Golden Girl”. Simon G Jewelry is regularly featured in Glamour, Modern Bride, Hollywood Life, Lucky and other fashion and lifestyle magazines.
In the Armenian culture of Simon Ghanimian’s childhood, young boys learned very early that they would never go hungry if they developed and possessed a skill to create, build and fix things with their hands. Simon’s parents were influential in shaping his business philosophy and design values. As a result, Ghanimian says it’s important to make each piece as though you are making it for yourself and to make sure it can withstand the test of time so it can be enjoyed by future generations. “You are creating a lasting legacy with each piece”, he says.
Simon G will be at the downtown State College Kranich’s on October 18; the Galleria Kranich’s in Johnstown on October 19 and the Logan Valley Mall Kranich’s on October 20.
