Looking for the Perfect Ring? Shop Verragio

Here at Kranich’s Jewelers, we are committed to providing couples with both classic and unique engagement rings. By seeking out the most innovative jewelry lines by some of the most well-respected jewelry designers in the industry, our team is able to find engagement rings as timeless and as special as the love you share with your partner.

While some designers offer multiple jewelry selections, others specialize solely in wedding and engagement rings – such as our line of rings by the revered Barry Verragio. We are proud to offer this globally celebrated line in our store, and are excited about the endless options for personalizing each ring to perfection in your eyes.

Barry Verragio

Barry Verragio is an expert in his field, and one of the most innovative fine jewelry designers in the world. He began his career as a jeweler, whose passion for the artistry of jewelry led him to the esteemed Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. It was there that he fell in love with the elegance of ring design. Now, with over 25 years of designing some of the most unique wedding and engagement rings in the world, you can rest assured that a Verragio ring is a ring she will love.

Inspired By the Beauty of Women

Each and every ring in his ever-evolving collection is inspired by the undeniable and often effortless beauty of women. Everything from his unique shapes, layered approach, innovative design elements – to his multiple options for personalizing each ring for the bride to be – is designed to be elegant, classic, sophisticated and beautiful. He never designs a ring for the sake of designing a ring, and goes back to the drawing board if a design is not as unique as the bridge he envisions; the beautiful woman whose finger it will be gracing.

A Layered Approach to Engagement Ring Design

A Verragio ring is designed with multiple layers. While the layers of each ring, or each of his current collection of rings, is unique, each layer can be personalized so that the bride can truly experience the brand’s motto to “make it yours.” The current five collections are the Parisian, Venetian, Insignia, Classic and Couture. Each layer of the ring can be personalized to allow the bride to express her personal sense of style.

While most rings are designed with only one precious metal, Verragio engagement rings are unique because each layer can be made with a combination of White Gold, Rose Gold, Yellow Gold or Platinum. In other words, the design of the band is highlighted by contrasting metals. The combination of metals allows you to create a ring with endless possibilities, and that doesn’t even include the options in diamonds and gemstones.

No need to worry about what the custom design will look like, as your jeweler has the ability to allow you to see how each layer varies with varying combinations of precious metals. Keep mixing and matching until it is just right. The most common layers of a Verragio ring include:
• Halo
• Tiara
• Lace
• Beading
• Shank

Not every ring has each of these layers – and don’t worry about understanding what each layer means. Your trusted Kranich’s jeweler will walk you through all of the distinct differences that make your engagement ring special.

The Engagement Ring Band is an Essential Part of the Design

Verragio engagement ring bands differ from most. While most designers offer an intricate setting with a plain band, Verragio dazzles with both the band and the setting. Not only is every wedding ring and engagement band designed in multiple precious metals, but each band is designed to be stunning from every angle. While most bands are fairly simple, a Verragio band is a full-circle design. It looks beautiful from the top, either side and even from the bottom of the ring when your hand is facing up.

Since the gemstones and intricate 360-degree design encompasses the entire band, the rings can be resized up to 1 ½ sizes with Verragio’s patented sizing system – without ever being cut.

We Must Not Forget the Diamond

What would a wedding or engagement ring be without a stunning diamond? As if the endless options in the wedding band aren’t enough, you still need to consider the diamond. Each Verragio ring features a focal gemstone in one of the classic cuts – round, square, oval, princess or pear. While the setting is predetermined, you can, of course, choose from varying quality and colors of diamonds. Study up on the 4 C’s before you begin shopping, so that you can truly understand the differences in Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat Weight.

Should You Bring Your Bride-to-Be Ring Shopping?

Verragio rings are for unique brides, or fiancés who desire something unique for their bride-to-be. While a more standard design has enough options to choose from, the endless options in Verragio rings can make shopping feel a bit overwhelming. Since each ring is a custom design, and therefore does not qualify for a standard refund or exchange, it might be best to ensure your bride has a bit of input – but the choice is of course always up to you. You could even bring her browsing one day to simply gauge a few of her likes and dislikes.

Your wedding ring is a symbol of your lasting love, so selecting the perfect ring is a must. Rings are also a significant investment, so you want to invest time and attention in designing a ring that your bride will cherish for years to come. We know there are a lot of important decisions to make when shopping for the perfect ring, which is why Kranich’s Jewelers is committed to making the process as fun, exciting and easy as possible.

The Things Nobody Tells You About Engagement Ring Shopping

While your love cannot be defined by a material object, engagement rings and wedding rings sets symbolize your commitment and eternal love. Shopping for the perfect ring requires much thought and consideration, and often takes more than one trip to the jewelry store. To speed up the process, and reduce your level of stress – turn to the tips below.

Determine Your Budget

An excellent place to start is by determining your budget. Your wedding ring is an investment, in both finances and your partnership. Engagement rings are available for all budgets, but the average ring costs 2 to 3 months’ salary. Financing is available in most jewelry stores, but you may want to save up – or set aside your next bonus check to ensure you have a nice down payment.

Determine Her Ring Size

Determining her ring size is a bit trickier than you might think. Pay attention to the rings she wears on a daily basis, and to which one she wears on her left hand ring finger. Try to sneak one of her rings away for a few hours while you head to jewelry store to determine sizing.

Ask for Help Determining Her Style

While you are sneaking a peak in her jewelry box, snap a few pics so that you can get a better idea of her style – but remember that diamond engagement rings are often more formal than everyday rings. Your best bet is to reach out to a friend or family member who knows how to keep your impending proposal a secret. If you are lucky, she has already discussed her ring dreams with one of her friends.

Learn the Basics of Diamond Shopping

Expect to be overwhelmed by your options, but ease your stress by learning a few basics before you head to the jewelry store. For starters, learn a bit more about the 4 C’s:
• Cut – what shape diamond does she want, and how many diamonds total?
• Color – white diamonds aren’t the only option, in fact diamonds come in every color of the rainbow
• Carat Weight – carat weight is directly related to the size of the primary diamond, if you have multiple diamonds you will have an overall carat weight and an individual carat weight
• Clarity – clarity refers to how “perfect” the gemstone is under magnification. Even if the inclusions aren’t visible, she may prefer a rare beauty.

While this may seem self-explanatory, the varying options in each of the 4 C’s will drastically affect the cost of the ring.

Consider Other Gemstones

While diamonds are available in all colors of the rainbow, a diamond engagement ring is not your only option. Consider rubies, emeralds, and sapphires– either as complementary gems or as the centerpiece. Depending on your bride’s sense of style, you could forgo diamonds altogether.

She Will Need a Wedding Band Too

While the engagement ring is your top priority, you will also have to select a wedding band. Some rings are sold in sets, some can be mixed and matched – and all options can be fully customized. Weigh the pros and cons of a plain wedding band so that you can invest more in the engagement ring, but also consider the stylistic benefits of a complementary design.

Know Your Precious Metals

While the diamond, design and setting is certainly top of mind – don’t forget to consider the precious metal the band and setting is made from. The most popular choices are:
• Gold
• White Gold
• Rose Gold
• Platinum

Don’t Forget You

Many couples opt to have a common theme in their rings, at the very least having the same precious metal. That being said, since many men wear little to no jewelry, there is often a bit of flexibility when it comes to selecting the wedding band you will wear. Also determine how much you want to spend on your wedding ring.

Think Ahead

While your current focus is on getting an initial “yes,” also think ahead a bit to whether or not you plan to give the gift of jewelry for anniversaries. A popular trend is to invest in additional bands to celebrate milestone anniversaries. While you certainly wait to select those upgrades, consider if the current ring is easily complimented.

Select a Trusted Jeweler

There is a reason that Kranich’s Jewelers has been in business since 1903 – it’s because we are a trusted Pennsylvania jeweler. While it might be tempting to go with a less-known or even an online-only jeweler, you want to protect your financial investment by selecting a jeweler who you can trust to be honest about cost, quality, service and ongoing needs.

Take Your Time

Shopping may not be your favorite pastime, but don’t feel obligation or pressure to find the perfect ring on the first try. If you are lucky, a ring will capture your attention and simply feel right from the second you lay eyes on it – but you may need some time to think it over. Make sure you leave yourself plenty of time to get it right before you plan your proposal.

Understand Your Jewelers Return & Exchange Policy

Just in case you don’t get it right, you need to know that you can return or exchange the ring you purchase. At Kranich’s, we want both you and your bride-to-be to be happy, which is why we offer a 30-day return policy on all of our in-stock jewelry – restrictions apply for special and custom orders.

Simon G: The Only Name in Fine Designer Jewelry

Simon G was established in 1981, and has gone on to become one of the most celebrated brands in the nation. What began as one store in California has grown into a globally recognized fine jewelry brand – and here at Kranich’s Jewelers, we couldn’t be more proud to be named an Authorized Dealer of this exquisite brand.

We carry multiple lines of Simon G engagement rings, earrings, pendants and more. If you are searching for a distinct and timeless piece of fine jewelry, you simply can’t go wrong with Simon G.

Simon G’s Early Career

Simon G moved to America with dreams of going to college to become an engineer. His parents had taught him the importance of honest, hard work – and that if he could build something with his hands that he would never go hungry. With only $200 to his name, he could not afford to go to college, so he began to build his savings by working for a relative in the diamond district of New York.

Once he learned how to set diamonds, he was hooked. The money he was saving for college was instead invested in jewelry making materials. He began creating unique designs, selling them door-to-door. When he moved to California, he launched the Simon G brand – which grew to be so popular that jewelry stores around the world wanted to sell his designs in their stores too.

The Simon G Difference

Simon G turned his hobby and passion into his life’s work, and he considers his work to be his legacy. His approach to design each and every item with the same enthusiasm he would have if he were creating it for himself, or for someone he loves. His goal is always to create a timeless selection that will be passed down through the generations. He is considered one of the most creative jewelers in the industry, with an undeniable signature style. His designs are perfect for every milestone in life, or anytime you simply want a striking piece of fine jewelry.

Simon G Engagement Rings

Simon G engagement rings feature only conflict-free, top-quality diamonds with GH or higher color – and SI or higher clarity. He also works with colored diamonds, and a variety of gemstones. He knows that each bridge desires a ring that is unique, but that also reflects her style. His settings and bands are detailed and intricate, and each ring is designed to be breathtaking from all angles. Currently, he features eight separate lines of engagement rings: Passion, Garden, Fabled, Mosaic, Duchess, Delicate, Caviar, and Simon Sets – allowing for an endless number of possibilities for brides-to-be.

Simon G Wedding Rings for Men

While all wedding ring jewelers offer wedding bands for men, few have the creativity that modern men desire in their ring. Many men wear little jewelry, and therefore opt for plain wedding bands. While there is nothing wrong with plain, it is possible to create a stunning men’s ring that is both stylized and masculine. Simon G rings for men have a variety of textures, are available in mixed metals, and if you want, feature diamonds in a creative way. They are rings are modern men are excited to wear, complementing their unique personality.

More than Wedding and Engagement Rings

Simon G specializes in wedding and engagement rings, but also designs earrings, pendants, and bracelets that make the perfect gift for ladies of all ages. He designs jewelry that is perfect for every occasion – anniversaries, birthdays, holidays or just the celebration of everyday life. Just as with his signature rings, Simon G’s fine jewelry is designed to be a wearable work of art. From classic to contemporary, nature-inspired, and intricate mosaic patterns – there is something for everyone.

Mixed Metals

While some designers work primarily with one or two precious metals, or only in polished metals, mixed metals are an essential part of Simon G’s design process. While some of his pieces are made solely from one precious metal, he often mixes and matches platinum, 18-karat yellow gold, white gold and rose gold. The goal is to create striking designs that highlight gemstones and all aspects of the design. From polished gold, to textured, or even wood-grain finish – his innovation is never-ending.

A Custom Design for Every Occasion

If you love the signature style offered by Simon G, but are searching for a custom design, your Kranich’s jeweler will work with you to create a custom engagement ring, pendant, earrings, or more. You can mix and match the features you like from a couple of different rings, mix and match metals, create a colorful design featuring your favorite gemstone, or create something entirely new.

Engagement Ring Shopping 101: Simple Solutions to Finding the Perfect Ring for Your Special Someone

Congratulations! You have met that special someone you want to commit to and partner with for the rest of your life.

So now only one obstacle remains between you and your happy ever after – asking for their hand in marriage. While planning the perfect proposal may sound like the most challenging part, engagement ring shopping often comes with at least a few unexpected surprises. Don’t let a few hiccups and inconveniences come between you and your fairy tale ending. Here are some tips that will help you along with engagement ring shopping.

The 4 C’s of Diamonds

Even unique engagement rings have at least four things in common: the 4 C’s. While you have likely heard of at least one or two, it is best to have a basic understanding of what you are looking for in terms of:

  • Cut:

If this is your first time shopping for jewelry, then you may be unaware of the different shapes and proportions. The most common cuts include round, oval, emerald, radiant, princess, pear, brilliant and marquise. While some of these cuts are self-explanatory, they vary greatly in overall proportion.

  • Color:

White diamonds are the top pick in both antique and contemporary diamonds, but a growing number of brides desire a unique color. However, even white diamonds range from clear to yellow. Diamonds come in every color of the rainbow, and selecting a colored gemstone can make even a standard setting standout.

  • Carat Weight:

Carat weight refers to the weight of the diamond, and therefore the size of the diamond. If the ring has multiple diamonds, you will have both a combined carat weight and individual carat weight for the center diamond.

  • Clarity:

While ring shopping, you may find that even rings with the same carat weight can vary greatly in price – which is often directly related to the difference in clarity. Since diamonds are nature-made, they may have flaws or inclusions that are indicated by a rating scale of Included through Flawless. A Flawless diamond will cost significantly more than a diamond with more inclusions. The good news is, that many flaws are seen only under magnifications – so if you can’t afford a rare flawless stone, you still have plenty of stunning options to choose from.

Diamonds Aren’t Your Only Option

Diamonds are the top choice for engagement rings, but they certainly aren’t the only option. Dependent on your bride-to-be’s personal style, you may also want to consider unique engagement rings that include other beautiful gemstones – like sapphires, emerald, or rubies. This could include a ring where the diamond is the feature stone complemented by a gemstone, or vice-versa.

The Gemstone Isn’t Your Only Deciding Factor

Finding the perfect gemstone may be your first order of business, but you have more to consider than the 4 C’s and gemstone. You must also choose the perfect:

  • Setting
  • Design
  • Number of feature stones
  • What precious metal the band is made from
  • Accompanying wedding band

Even if you have a solid understanding of the design you are searching for, the precious metal of the band is also key. Your most common choices include gold, white gold, and platinum. To avoid the need to resize the ring after purchase, try to determine what her ring size is before you go shopping. Keep in mind that each finger, and maybe even each hand has varying ring sizes.

You Might Need Some Help Engagement Ring Shopping

Between contemporary, colored, custom designs, and antique engagement rings – you may need someone who can help you select the perfect ring for your beloved. Although you may know your loved one better than anyone else, you may not be certain of her style in jewelry. Even if you are familiar with her general style and fashion sense, engagement rings are worn for a lifetime and often passed down through generations. In other words, your soon-to-be-betrothed may prefer a timeless classic.

Don’t hesitate to ask a trusted friend or family member who may already be aware of her preference in engagement rings for help. To ensure that the perfect ring is selected, many couples go ring shopping together, either pre or post engagement. At the very least, keep your ears open in case your loved one drops any hints.

You Can Design Your Own Ring

While our in-store selection of wedding bands and engagement rings is impressive, you can design a one-of-a-kind ring for your one-of-a-kind love. Your jeweler will work with you to create a custom design, you can combine your favorite features from multiple rings, or you can design your ring solo. You can even design a ring with a combination of heirloom gemstones that are reset into a new design.

Know How Much You Are Comfortable Spending Before You Arrive

Having a clear understanding of your budget will help you avoid the disappointment of selecting a ring that is outside of your budget. Be upfront with your jeweler regarding your budget, so that they can guide you towards rings in the cut, color, carat weight, and clarity that match your budget. Keep in mind, that the multiple variants within each of the 4 C’s will greatly affect the cost of your gemstone. For example, a small carat weight but colored diamond could be more expensive than the same ring in a white diamond. On the flipside, a white diamond with a high carat weight with many inclusions may be more affordable.

Shopping for the perfect engagement ring can be overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. Work with a team of jewelers you can trust and head to Kranich’s Jewelers. Family owned and operated since 1903, our jewelers are some of the best in the business. We understand how serious and deeply emotional shopping for the perfect engagement ring can be. That’s why we promise our exceptional service and honest advice to guide you towards a stunning diamond engagement ring that compliments your love unlike any other. So go ahead, pop the question with confidence and dazzle that special someone with a new diamond engagement ring from Kranich’s Jewelers.

Kristen & Ethan’s Engagement Story

Congratulations to Kristen and Ethan on their recent engagement! Ethan proposed to Kristen with a beautiful Kranich’s Jewelers diamond engagement ring in the picture below.

Diamond engagement ring

In Kristen’s words, here’s how their engagement story went:

“Ethan and I have known each other since we were toddlers and have been dating for about four years now. This past Wednesday, he took me fishing at Raystown Lake and up to the Ridenour Overlook afterwards, where he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I said yes, of course! He completely caught me off guard. Going to the lake and overlook is something we do often together every summer. He did good (ring & proposal)! It was the perfect evening, weather and all.”

Mike & Jill’s Picture Perfect Engagement Story

We would like to congratulate Mike & Jill on their engagement!  We loved their engagement story so much, we wanted to share it with you.

Engagement StoryIn Jill’s words, here’s how their engagement story went:

“Our engagement story starts a few months ago actually.  I saw a ring online that I liked and showed it to Mike, not thinking much of it.  It turns out that he purchased the ring that night! The way the ring was laid out wasn’t really my style, so Mike took it to Kranich’s to have it reset in a design he imagined.  From what he tells me, the staff was very eager to help him with the redesign because it was such a gorgeous stone that wasn’t being shown off as well as it could.

Engagement StoryFast-forward a few months, and it’s a Sunday night.  Mike and I are in our living room watching television, and I could tell he was being a little strange. He was sitting all the way across the room and said he didn’t want to come sit on the couch with me.  Honestly, I thought he was mad!

As we were watching TV, my phone lit up.  I’m a social media marketer, so my phone is always lighting up, but I took a look at it anyway.  It said I had a new follower on Instagram, so I opened it up.  The account’s name was @meyouandlou.  It turns out, Mike had created that account (our dog’s name is Louie), and uploaded about 50 photos from our relationship.  There were photos from trips we had taken, photos of our favorite dinners we had made, and even our new home we just bought together.  He was telling our story through the captions, too.  The last photo said “But there’s just one thing left to do…” And when I read that, Mike got down on one knee and proposed!

Our ring is a 3.04 yellow diamond surrounded by two trillion cut diamonds and halos of round diamonds.  We thank the team at the North Atherton Kranich’s for helping Mike design such a lovely ring!”

John & Cathy’s Engagement Story: The Right Diamond for the Right Romance

We would like to wish a congratulations to John and Cathy on their recent engagement!

Engagement Story

Below, John shares with us how he met and proposed to Cathy and how he chose the perfect engagement ring for her.  You can watch their engagement story here: John Proposes to Cathy

Diamond Engagement Ring

“Cathy and I met in the Fall of 2013 and instantly clicked. On the fourth day of dating I said to her “mahal kita”, which means “I love you” in Tagalog. She replied with “mahal din kita”, which means “I love you, too”. Cathy moved to the US in 2011 from the Philippines, her native country. We carried on a long distance relationship over Skype video chat, phone calls, and PMs every day since then. I would visit her one month, then she’d visit me the next. We discussed marriage quite a bit, and what we both want out of life. We are the same age and have been through past relationships, but never married. I had almost given in to the thought of being a bachelor forever. Then I met Cathy, the love of my life.

I surprised Cathy with a wedding proposal on a trip down to Washington, DC from State College, PA. I planned a weekend at Hyatt Dulles to pop the question after dinner with a special proposal video for her to watch. I even set up a camera to record the proposal. I had her sit and watch the video as I kneeled down. At first she thought I was just showing her a new app generated video on my phone until she learned what the video was really about. I presented the ring and she said yes! Cathy plans to move to State College, PA to be with me after the wedding. I work as an IT Systems Analyst for Penn State University, and Cathy plans to use her RN to find a nursing position locally.

Engagement Story

There are so many factors in selecting a diamond and setting for engagement rings. I’m such a geek that I extensively researched diamonds online to understand all of the grading specifications and get a good idea of what affects the price of a diamond. I built an array of diamond criteria to match my budget. I took this knowledge to all of the local jewelers in State College and Bellefonte, PA. I was disappointed with how little sales associates wanted to work from my perspective of focusing on getting the right diamond instead of just selecting something in a display case. That is until I met Mickey from Kranich’s Jewelers in downtown, State College. Mickey was willing to listen and spend the time to find a dozen diamonds from his suppliers to match what I wanted. Better yet, he beat everyone else’s price in town. In a couple days I stopped back in to choose just the right diamond from the those he had shipped to him. It was a beautiful 1/2 carat diamond with an ideal cut, polish, and symmetry that sparkled wildly in the light.

Cathy absolutely loves her engagement ring and we plan to marry locally in February of 2014, then have a larger church wedding in Washington DC for family in the summer.”

Joe & Emily’s Engagement Story

engagement story

We would like to congratulate Joe and Emily on their engagement! Emily recently shared with us how Joe proposed to her.  Here’s how it went in Emily’s words:

“For Joe’s birthday I surprised him with tickets to his first ever Steelers football game! We mapped out our plan to drive 6 hours to spend the weekend in Pittsburgh with his grandma and go to the game. It was my first time going to Pittsburgh so Joe decided he wanted to take me into the city Saturday night and we’d go to a nice restaurant for a “fancy date night”. When Saturday approached, we dressed up, drove into the city and parked at the bottom of Mt. Washington to take The Incline up the side of the mountain. Well I had no idea, but Joe was beginning to get a little nervous at this point because as we waited 45 minutes in line, he could see the spot at the top of the mountain where he was planning to pop the question. Once we reached the top of Mt. Washington we began walking to the restaurant, or so I thought!

Instead we came to a beautiful scenic overlook and Joe insisted on us stopping to take a picture. After we snapped a few photos, I was expecting us to rush to get to our dinner reservation on time, but Joe had other plans. As we walked to the end of the scenic overlook he turned and faced me and I could tell he seemed nervous. At that moment my heart started racing a thousand miles an hour and I knew what was about to happen. As Joe reached in his pocket and got down on one knee he shared with me reasons he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me, making memories with me and pursing dreams with me, and then he said that in order to do that, he first needed to ask me one more question. He asked me to marry him! And I of course said YESSS!!!!!

engagement storyThe moments that followed were such a blur to me, I was so surprised, shocked, excited and joyful I couldn’t hardly handle it! We spent a few moments taking more pictures with the beautiful sun setting over the city and of course admiring my new beautiful ring!

And then we walked down the street to enjoy a fantastic dinner at the LeMont Restaurant just the two of us. We had a private table overlooking the entire city of Pittsburgh and Joe had beautiful flowers waiting for me! Once we finished dinner we spent the rest of the evening calling all of our family and closest friends to share the news with them.

The next morning I woke up still in shock that I was engaged!!! And as I laid in bed I began texting my sister pictures of my ring… little did I know Joe had her waiting in the next room to surprise me!!!  My sister and her husband drove through the night to surprise me and spend the whole next day with me and Joe. She’s a wedding photographer and so she also surprised us by offering to go ahead and take some engagement pictures for us that day! We had such a blast taking pictures right after getting engaged!

Two weeks after the proposal we were in my hometown for an engagement party and Joe surprised me YET AGAIN! As a slideshow of all of our pictures together scrolled through, all of the sudden a picture of our proposal appeared! I was speechless! “Wait… what?? How did he?! Who?!” It turns out Joe and my sister secretly hired a Pittsburgh photographer, Zack Wilson, to document our whole proposal without me knowing it!! This was such an incredible surprise and I am beyond thankful to have such beautiful images to remember a once in a lifetime moment!!”

Here’s a few more pictures of Joe, Emily, and Emily’s Kranich’s Jewelers Engagement Ring.

College Sweethearts Engagement Story – Garrett & Sarah

engagement storyCollege Sweethearts, Garrett & Sarah, recently got engaged on their college campus at Virginia Tech.  We loved their engagement story so much, we wanted to share it with you!

engagement storyIn Garrett’s words, here’s how he surprised Sarah with the perfect proposal:

“Sarah and I met at Virginia Tech during my freshman and her sophomore year through a group of mutual friends, but it wasn’t until after knowing each other for a year that we started dating. Virginia Tech is where we met and where we fell in love.

We were planning on going back to Virginia Tech for a football game and to celebrate Sarah’s 25th birthday with all our friends. I had decided this would be the perfect weekend to propose. I contacted Sarah’s girlfriends, who played along and told her that they would be getting into town late and we’d have to waste some time when we got there. Once we arrived to Blacksburg on Friday afternoon, we walked around campus and conveniently ended up at our favorite place, the Duck Pond. I had also arranged for a friend, who is photographer, to capture the moment. Everything went as planned and I popped the question on the edge of the pond, ducks included! She said YES! A toast was held at our gracious host’s home, where she had chilled champagne waiting. We spent the rest of the weekend celebrating with friends and watching the Hokies win!

The ring was designed around an heirloom round cut diamond, given to me by my mother, from her mother who had it set in a Methodist cross. While visiting Kranich’s, I noticed a wrap for an engagement ring in the display case that incorporated two rubies coming off the sides at an angle. I decided I wanted to use maroon (dark red ruby) and orange (citrine), our alma mater colors, without appearing like a championship ring. Overall I was ecstatic with the outcome! The employees at Kranich’s quickly located a jeweler who could wax mold a custom ring in the tight time frame, everything was handled professionally and most importantly, on time!”

Here’s a picture of Sarah’s stunning ring:
