Wiki Wiki Whaaa?

It’s been a busy couple of days here in the Kranich’s office. A full site audit, some Swarovski updates and the addition of the new Elysee designer watch line have kept us all busy. I began updates on a Wikipedia page and it’s like learning a whole new language. We even migrated our servers over the weekend, so please excuse any glitches until we get them all hammered out.

In the meantime, the next holiday on the plate is Father’s Day. I bet your dad would like one of our designer watches. Maybe even one from the new designer line Elysee.

Boy Finds Treasure in The Back Yard

In case you missed it over the weekend, here is a nice story out of the Boston area about a young boy who found a missing engagement ring and wedding band while playing in the back yard.

Ryan Baima, 3, loves to dig in his yard, and it was while he was digging recently that he made an incredible discovery.

He brought a ring, caked with dirt, over to his mother.  Luna Baima says she didn’t think much of it, until Ryan asked if she wanted the other one.  That’s when it clicked in her head, that her son had likely just found someone’s engagement ring and wedding band.
Luna began asking neighbors about the rings, and one neighor remembered that 33 years ago, a woman named Joan Mulligan had lost her rings while weeding in the yard.

How Did Gold Get its Name?

goldArguably the most beautiful of the earth’s metals, gold has been valued by people all over the world since ancient times. Prized by the pharaohs of Egypt and Sumerian kings all the way through modern times, this lustrous, brilliant metal is equally prized by jewelcrafters for its soft, malleable properties. Dazzling, easy to shape, and an exquisite accessory to every look, gold remains the prized top metal used in fine jewelry today.

Though we may never know what the pharaohs called this marvelous metal by, we do know that the word “gold” as we know it today originated from the Old English counterpart, also ‘gold’, which itself was derived from the Proto-Germanic languages (as most words in English originally were), where it was called ‘gulth’. ‘Gulth-‘, to the best of our current knowledge, was a descriptive prefix that meant ‘yellow’, or ‘bright’. Certainly an apt name!

Since it’s introduction into the English language, the word ‘gold’ has come to share itself with a tradition of words that describe excellence, beauty, timelessness, and wealth. Whether you call it gold or gulth, Kranich’s Jewelers can offer you a fine selection of beautiful jewelry showcasing the richness and majesty of this radiant metal.
